"When the world asks, "what was it like?" Only the photographer can say, "See!"
- Mark Denman
Paris is arguably, one of the most magical and impactful cities on Earth. Many of the greatest photographers in history marveled at the canvas Paris presented them. Often considered a key figure in the development of street photography and photojournalism, French Humanist and world-renowned photographer Henri Cartier-Bresson found his love for photography on the streets of this great city.
Street Photography is an improvisation. It’s an examination performed through long hours of wandering on foot, guided by the visuals of great human character. And, perhaps, the fragility of life. Learning to see physical gestures of emotion or energy, recognizing detailed expressions of real life, being ready and open for momentary chance encounters, and experiencing the quiet interactions with strangers along the way, is what makes it all feel so special. The fraction of a moment, when stopped in time by a photograph, is where subjective stories are imagined, and curiosities are born.
Join professional Street Photographer, Keith Pitts, on a 4-day exploration of, and education in the art of Street Photography, whose place is at the forefront of expression and interest in photography as a whole.
The main goal of this workshop is to learn or further expand skills to create powerful photos telling a story of people and the places they live, and building a camaraderie with fellow photographers that share a passionate curiosity of street photography. We’ll be documenting the essence of local life, one frame at a time, and having fun along the way.
The workshop will include daily meetings at the flat for coffee and discussion, small, intimate classes expressing the nuances of street photography, reviews and group edits of photos daily, and many miles of walking the streets of Paris practicing our craft. We’ll wrap the experience with a final show of images and a photographic review of the adventures along the way.
Keith’s photography career began in 1995. As a professional photographer for over 28 years, his knowledge of the craft, and added passion for it, is a great repository of information containing what it takes to make it as a photographer and to create meaningful art. His life experiences from growing up in the Bronx in New York City, to his world travels as a corpsman in the U.S. Navy, and his international work as a professional photographer come together to frame a unique view of the human condition, complete with all its nuances, as you’ll likely see in his personal work.
Join Keith in Paris for this one-of-a-kind photographic adventure. And, learn more about yourself, life, and your craft in the process.
“This was my first workshop and I have to say my favorite aspect was hanging out with such great creative people, geeking out on our shared love of photography. Again the review and critique time was very helpful to see how my fellow classmates were looking at many of the same places, people and moments and capturing the various elements in different ways to create such different visual images. I really enjoyed the workshop and would highly recommend it to others”.

OVERVIEW
Each day there will be class sessions, image reviews and critiques (we all learn from each other).
We’ll walk the streets looking for and at the city in ways that most people don’t.
Each night there will be after hours at the flat or a local bar à vin (with (wine and beverages provided) in order to ask questions that come up from the day or any other subjects that come to mind.
It’s also an opportunity for everyone to strengthen the bond that will inevitably develop among all of us.
We’ll eat together, drink together, laugh together and of course learn together.
It’s more than a "how to” workshop. It’s an experience.
from Taunia…workshop attendee: “I loved the convivial atmosphere, the informal feel, that it encouraged exploration; seeing others in action on the street and seeing each other's chosen pics for the day was eye opening; appreciated the tips on software, camera settings, etc; the highlight for me was the group discussion and critique of photo selections, which did not feel rushed but carefully considered (a huge plus); the slideshow takeaway is a very nice feel-good moment for the final evening”.
